Understand the result

How to calculate it

New ingredient quantity = original quantity × desired servings ÷ original servings

Scaling ingredients does not guarantee proportional cooking time, pan size or seasoning. Verify technique and food safety separately.

Worked example

To resize four servings into eight, multiply each ingredient by 8 ÷ 4 = 2. A recipe with 500 g flour and 100 g butter becomes 1,000 g flour and 200 g butter. Cooking time must be evaluated separately.

Common questions

Recipe Scaler FAQ

Should cooking time double when the recipe doubles?

No. Surface area, pan depth and equipment affect heating. Use a suitable tested method and check doneness independently.

What does this calculation leave out?

Scaling ingredients does not guarantee proportional cooking time, pan size or seasoning. Verify technique and food safety separately.

Are my inputs saved or sent to a server?

Calculations run in your browser. We do not send your inputs or results to our server or analytics. A comparison stays in this tab until it is refreshed. A CSV is saved only when you choose to download it. See our privacy policy for ordinary hosting and optional analytics data.
