How to calculate overall equipment effectiveness
OEE = availability × performance × quality; availability = run time ÷ planned time; performance = ideal cycle × total ÷ run time
Planned time excludes periods with no production intent. Cycle time is in seconds; other time inputs are minutes. Counts must describe the same equipment and period.
Worked example
An illustrative scenario. “Reset to example” restores it in the calculator.
- Planned production time
- 480 minutes
- Stop time within planned production
- 60 minutes
- Ideal cycle time per unit
- 30 seconds
- Total units produced
- 700 units
- Good units on first pass
- 665 units

Overall Equipment Effectiveness FAQ
Why reject performance above 100%?
It usually means the ideal cycle time, count or operating time is inconsistent. Correct those inputs before using the result to compare production losses.
